Nonviolence and cowardice are contradictory terms. Nonviolence is the greatest virtue, cowardice the greatest vice. Nonviolence springs from love, cowardice from hate. Nonviolence always suffers, cowardice would always inflict suffering. Perfect nonviolence is the highest bravery. Nonviolent conduct is never demoralizing, cowardice always is.

Peace will not come out of a clash of arms
but out of justice lived and done by unarmed nations in the face of odds.

Nonviolence is the greatest force at the disposal of mankind.
It is mightier than the mightiest weapon of destruction devised by the ingenuity of man.

You assist an evil system most effectively by obeying its orders and decrees.
An evil system never deserves such allegiance.
Allegiance to it means partaking of the evil.
A good person will resist an evil system with his or her whole soul.

Man's nature is not essentially evil. Brute nature has been known to yield to the influence of love. You must never despair of human nature.

Y'know I hate to say it, But all of this, Said by Yodi. Admitably less co-herrantly, but all the same. Even though alot of those scripted words were taken from all over, Bible to Martin L. Its nice to see thousands of kids got brought up with a spiritual guru who also had awesome magic powers.

This is the thing man: it doesn't matter where you recieve words of wisdom, but that you do. The message of love has been proclaimed since the year dot, since there was an absence of it. I personally like Ghandi as unlike Luther King Jr he did not condone violence for his cause. There is an element of Thomas More in him - that he trusts everyone knows the right thing and needs to prod them just slightly so they realise it themselves and think they are grand for it. Violence was never the answer, King.

You know I don't like Ghandi that much. But here's some Ghandi quotes you missed out on:

"I do not consider Hitler to be as bad as he is depicted. He is showing an ability that is amazing and seems to be gaining his victories without much bloodshed"

Later on he said
"Hitler killed five million [sic] Jews. It is the greatest crime of our time. But the Jews should have offered themselves to the butcher's knife. They should have thrown themselves into the sea from cliffs."

"Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the act of depriving a whole nation of arms, as the blackest."

"We must always seek to ally ourselves with that part of the enemy that knows what is right." I put this last one in because it seems that like Canuckfish, Ghandi believes there is Absolute Truth. Other writings and sayings from him also suggest this
